My story August 2012

My name is Tala and I am an Alaskan Malamute, through no fault of my own I ended up being a rescue dog. The family who owned me loved me but their circumstances changed and they could no longer keep me. So I was put up for re-homing on a website.

When my new family came to look at me I wasn't looking my best, as living outside (which is quite normal for my breed) had given me a very full coat. Which was falling out in handfuls as it was the middle of August, I had scratched some patches off, but to be honest looked very moth eaten.

I was taken to my new home, not very sure of what to expect. On the way home we stopped to buy a new collar, lead, food and bowls, I was so unsure of myself, I didn't even want to walk around Pets at Home. Even the staff could not tempt me with a treat or two! My mum told me after they had no intention of taking me home that day, they just came to meet me, but because I looked so down, I melted her heart when I gave her big kisses.

When I arrived at my new house, my first encounter was with a very aggy tom cat called Charlie. I was totally taken back by the full on assault that cat gave me! But I was reassured and taken into the garden for the first time.

I was only wearing a muzzle, as mum didn't know how i would react to the cats, it soon came off!

Within a few hours and many hands I looked so much better, and felt much cooler too.

I soon realised that I wasn't the only furry in the house, I now live with 6 cats, the aggy tom: Charlie( who it turns out, invited himself in one day and never left, mum took him to the vets but he wasn't chipped, posters were put up but no-one claimed him )a mother cat: Frank, her 2 kittens,(who are now 2) Satan and Peter (yes they are both girls too), George another rescue kitten (who is....... yes you have guessed it....... a girl)  and Fluffy who was a rescued maine coon because she was the runt of the litter. Other non-human occupants include a rabbit, a water dragon and 4 chickens.

I am not saying I am the perfect house mate to them, as I do sneak up on the cats and woof, to see how high I can make them jump. Charlie and Frank both batter me if I step out of line, but the others I can have fun with......... I love chasing them; we now have a dog assisted cat flap........ LOL!

Finding food I like has been a challenge, but I am now on a diet of Natural Diet dog food, and Iams dry food. I do have a bad habit of eating the cat food when they are not looking. I get a treat with a nice bone from the butchers too, although to begin with I was very iffy if someone went near me when I was eating, now I am chilled.

More of my adventures to follow!!
